CLIENT SUCCESS STORY: Facing Catastrophe, KIT Security Found a Life Saver, Then a Consistent Partner for Excellence, in UBX Cloud
The venture, known as KIT Security, was going extremely well when, in 2021, Kay hit a potential crisis.

Massachusetts-based Aaron Kay was thriving as IT manager for the high-end retailer Loro Piana – then as chief technology officer for JKS Systems – when he decided in 2016 that he could hit new levels of success: A virtual CIO for corporate clients where he would handle large-scale projects like server management, firewalls and cybersecurity.
The venture, known as KIT Security, was going extremely well when, in 2021, Kay hit a potential crisis. The company he’d been running live servers with suddenly shut down all operations.
“I was panicking, and I had to get all my information off their servers and onto something else immediately,” Kay recalls. “I called eight to 10 different companies.”
The panic turned to relief, though, when the CEO of one of those companies made it clear he would not let Kay fall prey to this calamity.
That CEO was Steven Panovski of UBX Cloud.
“Steve was like, ‘OK, you’ve got a disaster about to hit you,’” Kay recalls. “And he took ownership of it and said, ‘We are going to get you through this as soon as possible.’”
And that’s exactly what the UBX Cloud team did. Kay explained in detail what had happened and how many servers were affected. That included one customer that had 40 servers – a large, remote desktop server farm – with hundreds of users connecting to them.
Would a company in Royal Oak, Michigan really go to such lengths for a one-man operation in Massachusetts? Kay was amazed by the response.
“It was 18-to-20-hour days between various parts of their team,” Kay says. “You’ve got to get the networking right. You’ve got to get the backups right. It’s their Windows guys understanding what’s happening once the servers boot, and knowing what they’re looking for. It was a whole team effort, and they brought each individual piece of it.”
Within just a few days, the UBX Cloud team got all of KIT’s operation moved onto UBX servers, with partner Pure Storage playing a critical role. It was a life-saving operation for KIT Security. And that was just the start of a relationship that changed so much for Aaron Kay.
“We got moved over, and then it was like, OK, deep breath,” Kay says. “Not only did they show up and do that, but that level of service has continued. They were instrumental in helping me move other clients to them in far more controlled ways. And Steve would be happy to get on calls with me and customers to talk through their offerings. Steve is a very even-keeled, nice guy. There’s no pressure. He’s adaptive.”
Indeed, the ability of the UBX Cloud team to be adaptive is one of the things that’s made such a strong impression on Kay.
“I’ve got six or seven clients over there now that we’ve moved the infrastructure over, and their responsiveness is kind of amazing,” Kay says. “I can call them and get somebody immediately on the phone. I can go to them with a problem and they’ll help me figure it out and make it work. Even if it’s unique to me and nothing they’ve ever done before. They’ll figure it out and get their infrastructure to make it happen.”
One result of all this is Kay’s newfound ability to confidently tell clients he offers 100 percent uptime. And that was definitely not the case with the company he once relied upon.
“When we moved over, we noticed a massive difference in speed and reliability of the servers themselves,” Kay says. “We weren’t seeing this high latency in getting things to happen. The infrastructure, their networking, their servers – it’s phenomenal. And while we have had server crashes because of Microsoft, we contact UBX Cloud and within an hour we’re back up. You can call them and you get on the phone with someone immediately that helps to assess the situation. Even though they don’t own it, they lend a hand to solve the Windows problem if they can.”
UBX Cloud first responded as a life saver. Ever since, the UBX team has continued to execute – bringing consistent performance and peace of mind to a customer who had neither with his previous provider.
The result is an even more successful, and very satisfied, KIT Security.
