Hareesh Subramaniyam joined UBX Cloud as a systems engineer straight out of college in 2021. It was a fortuitous opportunity when the UBX team attended a job fair at his university in India.

But it was also the culmination of an unlikely journey for the resident of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Today, Hareesh is one of UBX Cloud’s most reliable firemen, stepping in quickly when a client’s issue is escalated and using all kinds of creative problem-solving skills to navigate to a solution. His primary focus is on backup issues, and he has become an expert at making sure he can bring a client’s backup from the cloud quickly, so production is not hindered.

But until he was 12, he had scarcely even looked at a computer.

“The computer was very new to me,” Hareesh says. “I was just curious to learn about these systems. I started with the small laptops and the desktops and eventually I came to learn about the systems themselves.”

That’s when he decided that IT was going to be his field. And as well as he did in school, it was still a special opportunity when a company like UBX Cloud gave him the chance to apply what he had learned to real business clients.

“UBX Cloud has never failed to give me the opportunity to work on high-priority cases,” Hareesh says. “I was able to prove myself and my engineering skills, so Steven has included me in many escalation cases – all because the company had trust in me and wanted to give me the opportunity.”

UBX Cloud CEO Steven Panovski is effusive in his praise of Hareesh and the difference he has made for clients.

“Hareesh is not only a fire fighter who’s one step ahead of the bad guys,” Steven says. “He’s also the good guy who can fix and recover the impossible.”

That day in 2021 when the UBX team encountered Hareesh at the job fair in India represented a critical moment. While his school performance had been exemplary, there was no hard and fast evidence he would apply it so successfully in client situations. But the team had a strong feeling about him.

“It was clear that he understood systems and had the engineering skills,” Steven says. “But many students have those. With Hareesh, our team could see that he would approach the work with a sense of mission. That he would be the kind of team member who would spare nothing to solve a client’s problem or restore what seemed to be lost, and those are the attributes we look for – the kinds of things that set a UBX Cloud team member apart from the rest of the field.”

Since joining the company, Steven says Hareesh has fulfilled that promise consistently with his dedication and continued strong results.

For his part, Hareesh says it’s a joy to work every day knowing he’s never alone in the journey.

“It’s the teamwork I love very much at UBX,” Hareesh says. “All the issues and escalations – or even the small issues – we work as a team. Also, they never fail to honor me and appreciate me for the work I do.”
